Austin’s HomeAway SuperBowl Ad Scores Big Traffic



Austin company HomeAway Inc. spent a total of $2 million to make and air their commercial for the SuperBowl. It features Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in a National Lampoon’s reunion.

It didn’t win any huge awards (only placing 12th on the USA Today ad meter), and many New York City advertising and marketing executives snubbed their nose at it.  But, you know what, who cares!  The ad worked.  Their website received an aggregate traffic spike of 460,000 views during the third quarter of the game according to Akamai. At least I know what site I’ll be going to check out for my next vacation.
